US Airways increases baggage fees

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

New York (CNN Money)  02/9/2010 (Charles Riley, staff reporter)

US Airways is hiking fees on overweight and oversized baggage sizes, a spokesperson for the airline said Wednesday.

For overweight bags that weight between 50 and 70 lbs., the price will increase from $50 to $90. For supersized bags that weigh in excess of 70 lbs., customers will have to pay $175. up from the previous price of $100.

Those fees are in addition to the base price for checked bags, which the airline is keeping the same at $25 for the first bag, and $35 for the second.

The new prices will apply to flights purchased on or after Feb. 1st for travel on or after March 1, 2011.

And there is more bad news for customers who travel with more than two bags. The prices for checking bags numbered 3 to 9 is increasing from $100 to $125.

In recent years, airlines have been increasing a la carte fees for things like changing flights, more legroom and checking bags in an effort to cope with rising fuel prices and falling revenue. To top of page

New Airline Carrier coming to Palm Beach Intl Airport in the Fall

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

Calming and blue not only describes beaches here in The Palm Beaches and Boca Raton, but also our skies. Starting this fall Direct Air will be pulling into the gates of easy-to-use Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) daily with six new non-stop domestic and international flights.

Domestic flights will take off beginning November 18, 2010. For the first time, PBI will have
non-stop flights to and from four convenient airports, perfect for those looking to travel with ease by avoiding gate changes and missed connections. Not too far from Chicago and close to the city’s Northwest and Northern suburbs, Rockford/Chicago, IL (RFD) is ideal for Chicagoland travelers. Buffalo/Niagara Falls, NY (IAG) is just a short drive from Toronto, Canada, perfect for those on either side of the border. Worchester, MA (ORH) is only about 50 miles west of Boston. And Kalamazoo, MI (AZO) serves much of western Michigan. Make reservations early to ensure you will be among the first to experience this new way to fly to Florida.

Caribbean travelers – Direct Air has something for you, too. Pack your carry-on and get ready for another stamp in your passport. Starting in December you can toss that beach bag in an over-head compartment and fly between PBI and San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU) and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ) for the first time ever.

Here, we review common air traveler complaints and take a look at the way the industry is addressing them. It seems like they’ve got a solution for everything from boredom to jetlag-now the only question is, should we be allowed to use our cell phones in-flight?

“Am I The Only One?” – Sports Column

Friday, August 27th, 2010

“Am I The Only One”? who has absolutely no pity on poor, poor Roger Clemens who has now been indicted on possible (sure, possible, as sure as the sun rising in the east and setting in the west, it’s that sure) perjury charges for lying to a grand jury on these charges he took steroids? OK, OK, he took steroids that’s obvious, but not enough to get him some jail time up the rive. Lying to a grand jury? No, no, Roger the K you have cooked your own goose, and it’s well done may I add. You now will be indicted and face those boys. Can you get out of this bases loaded, no one out situation? Doesn’t look very good to this guy here in Boca Raton.
On a brighter side, you sure look good in pinstripes (and not Yankee ones), however sad (boo hoo, my heart aches) this may appear to others. You now get your picture on the Hall of Shame joining others such as Martha Stewart (yup, she also fibbed to a grand jury), Plaxico Burress, and if you’re worried about bullpen relief don’t be shocked if your main man is hopefully soon to be ex Met Francisco Rodgriguez (or KFlop) who may join you after a bit of a tiny fight in the clubhouse this past week. It’s amazing, if they all lied you could have quite a team there at Team Attica!! Bonds batting cleanup, or maybe McGwire, or maybe even ARod or Sosa? How about Palmeiro at first with his make believe 500+ homers and fake 3000+ hits As for batboy, is Jose Canseco available, or is he still getting clobbered by little old ladies on national TV for a few dollars. I can’t believe I blogged a few years ago that he was the “Benedict Arnold of baseball” and he turned out to be more honest than Mary Poppins and Abe Lincoln (not necessarily in that order of course)!!
You know, sports fanaticos, it’s surely a sad case of affairs, when these millionaire ball players ruin their reputations and standing in the community just to hit a few more homers or win a dozen or so extra games, wouldn’t you say? Some role models these clowns turned out to be. Where’s Berra, Hodges, Campy, Aaron and Mays when you need them?
Eventually they will get what they all deserve, as we await the first of what may be many years of trials in court over this steroid mess these ballplayers have created. How sad for true baseball fans like yours truly to watch one star after another fall out of favor with the public and have their good name ruined for life. What next? You’re going to tell me the Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest at Nathan’s is not real? Oh, the crime, and here I was about to enter by telling Nathan’s I could qualify by eating 55 hot dogs in the allotted time… 55?OK, OK, my personal high is maybe 2-1/2 (no bun on the third one)… but so what? If Barry Bonds can hit 73 homers at his age, why can’t I eat 55 little doggies at my age, which is also 55? Uh oh, I haven’t seen 55 in a few years, but you see how this fibbing is contagious. I was also 6 feet tall once, and climbed Mount Everest in my sneakers (Keds, of course).
Anyway, it’s time to call it a day, this is “The Only One” signing off, and kindly reminding you if you wish to go to any of our 3 airports to see Roger the Dodger sink like the Titanic, you can surely call M&M Airport and Car Service at 561 488-6014, and book your reservations. Our friendly and professional staff awaits your phone call!

***”Am I The Only One?” by AGee

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

****”Am I The Only One?” who’s trying to figure out what’s going on in the world of sports these days as all of South Florida counts the minutes and seconds till the NFL opens its season??? Even in these difficult financial times, baseball continues to draw well, with record crowds all over the country, except here in South Florida of course, when even on a good day, a crowd of 18 to 20 thousand is short of a miracle, and usually happens only on a Saturday night when an after game music show is provided… let’s face it, boys and girls, in South Florida it’s either Dolphins, ‘Canes, ‘Noles or Gators,’ and nothing else usually matters even with Lebron and Bosh joining DWade on the Heat, unless they win it all you’ll see some empty seats during the year for sure. As for baseball, anyone actually care about the Fish? I go to many games, and people are so busy buying food, they don’t even take the time to watch the beauty of baseball, its strategy, and athleticism. **** I guess after a few too many beers and enchiladas, most fans are so happy they actually leave early to avoid the traffic, no?… What traffic?…. With only 10 or so thousand fans, you can get out of the parking lot in about 10 minutes, and that includes stopping at all the stop signs and yielding when necessary…. HOWEVER, if you just don’t fell like driving yourself, kindly call us at M&M Airport & Car Service, where our friendly drivers will be more than happy to drive you anytime to your airport of choice. As a matter of fact, even if you are not going to the airport, but want a night out on the town in one of our luxury vehicles (HINT, HINT, can we dare say MIAMI), we will surely take you there in style! REMEMBER: Call 561-488-6014 for transportation to West Palm International (PBI), Ft. Lauderdale (FLL) and Miami International (MIA) Airports. We also provide ground transportation to Port Everglades and the Miami Seaports.

……”Am I The Only One?” – Sports Column

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

…….”Am I The Only One?” who can’t believe all the excitement today about King Lebron James joining the Miami Heat?? Wow, Lebron, Dee Wade and Bosh on one team… Can you imagine? Order your NBA Finals tickets for 2011 immediately, if not sooner. Look out Kobe, look out Orlando Magic, look out Celtics! After all, the Heat will surely never lose a game this year. As a matter of fact, let’s not even bother playing the games, just give Coach Pat Riley the trophy right now, and avoid all this confrontation? My opinion?? Well, yours truly says: “Just hold on a minute, friends of M&M Airport?…”
***Unless they start playing with 3 players and 3 basketballs, can this actually work? Wade and James on the same team? Exactly who will bring up the ball and take all the shots here? Don’t they play with 5 on a side? The Heat just traded Beasley to Minnesota, Chalmers is a question mark… Haslem is average at best… Basketball is a TEAM GAME, not an individual showing of talent. For the Heat to win this title, they better get some more players, that is if they have any cash left. I guess owner Mickey Arison and Mr. Riley still have plenty of work ahead of them, so let’s not anoint these guys World Champions just yet… REMEMBER: they still have to play the games!
FOOTNOTE: By the way, if the Heat does go to the NBA Finals in 2011, remember to call M&M Airport Service at (561) 488-6014 and their professional customer service reps will be more than happy to quote a price.
